About OUR FARM

Lake Nowhere Mule and Donkey Farm is located at 400 Nowhere Lane
Martin, TN 38237.

Jim and Deb Kidwell moved from Fort Lauderdale to Martin in 2004. Deb retired from a municipal police department in S. Florida and Jim is a retired business man. Deb oversees the day-to-day operations of the farm, and Jim is a sub-contractor building metal barns, riding arenas and commercial buildings. Lake Nowhere Mule and Donkey Farm is registered with the American Donkey and Mule Society and the North American Saddle Mule Association. They proudly support the American Mammoth Jackstock Registry.

Jim and Deb are active in the community and participate in the “Farmfest” at University of Tennessee at Martin, and host an average of 4 labs per semester from the university. Labs include: Basic Animal Science, Basic Animal Reproduction, Equine Reproduction and Stable Management. They also conduct educational farm tours for civic groups such as the Girl and Boy Scouts and field trips from local public schools and churches. Look for their draft horse and draft mule teams driving in the annual Soy Bean Festival parade in Martin, the Iris Festival parade in Dresden, TN and the Doodle Soup Festival parade in Bradford, TN. Jim and Deb are members of the Weakley County Chamber of Commerce. Lake Nowhere is also a corporate sponsor of the Cowboy Bulletin Board radio program conducted by Cowboy Way Ministries.

OUR SUPPORT TEAM:

SUSAN POWELL - Farm Manager - Susan was born and raised in Shelbyville, TN and has worked with horses her whole life. Susan is a Certified Veterinary Technician and was a professional dog groomer and breeder/handler of champion AKC Chows for twenty six years. Susan has worked for the farm for two years and is Deb’s right hand woman! We apprieciate Susan's love for animals and caring for ours like they are her own. Susan lives in Pilot Oak, KY with her menagerie of dogs, cats and horses.

JASON HOFFMAN - Trainer - Jason grew up in Paris, TN and has ridden horses and mules his whole life. Jason started bull riding when he was ten years old and was a professional bull rider for many years. Jason started training horses and mules professionally in 2003. He has ridden mules at Jake Clark Mule Days in Ralston, WY and has trained extensively with “Bar S’s” Mark Schrimpf of Denton, TX and Nashville’s own, Sam Powell. Jim and Deb are thrilled to have Jason training their mules. Jason strives for quietness, softness and respect. Jason lives with his wife Andrea in Lynn Grove, KY. Jason’s favorite expression is: “there is more to riding a mule than putting a leg on each side”, and we couldn’t agree with him more!

BOB PAGE, JASON ROBERTS and MELANIE BURNLEY - Veterinarians -

Bob Page, DVM is the owner of NW Tennessee Veterinary Services in Dresden, TN. Bob attended undergraduate school at UTM and received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University in 1973. After serving in the military for three years Bob opened the clinic in 1976. Bob lives in Dresden, TN with his wife Jo.

Jason Roberts, DVM grew up in Dresden, TN and received his undergraduate degree from UTM. Jason received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from UT, Knoxville in 2002 and has practiced in Dresden since. Jason is married to Beth and they have a beautiful baby girl named Addie Elizabeth.

Melanie Burnley, DVM is an AAEP licensed veterinarian. She and her husband JT own and operate Wrenwood, a full service dressage and open jumping facility in Fulton, KY. JT has been an international dressage rider and trainer for over 25 years and works out of their Wrenwood facility. Melanie’s expertise is in Equine reproduction, dental and lameness issues. Melanie and JT live in Fulton, KY with their assorted canines, Clydesdales, Friesians and other assorted horses.

TONY HICKS, DVM - Equine Surgeon - On those rare occasions when we require the services of a equine surgical hospital, we rely on Dr. Tony Hicks in Paducah, KY. Dr. Hicks’ practice in Paducah is limited to only equines. We appreciate having him so close to us, and he has been a life saver! If you would like more information about his clinic, please log on to: www.equinevetservice.com

CHRIS CLARK - Farrier - Chris is a graduate of the Kentucky Horseshoeing School and has been studying with noted international equine podiatrist, Dr. Rick Redden, DVM in Versailles, KY. Chris has ridden under Ralph Hill, Alexandria Tatham and JT Burnley. Chris won the World and Grand Champion classes at the 2007 International Friesian Show Horse Association competition in St. Louis. His wife Pat, participates in fox hunting and dressage classes as well. Chris and Pat live in Water Valley, KY with a variety of pets and horses. Chris visits the farm weekly to trim or shoe a different group of our animals and we appreciate his dedication and expertise in his craft.

WILLIAM “EDSEL” BOWLIN - Saddle Maker - Mr. Edsel owns Fairview Farm Saddlery in Dresden, TN. Mr. Edsel has been a AQHA member since 1940, and we think he bleeds Quarter Horse! We have managed to change Mr. Edsel’s views on mules and 2007 saw his wonderful Quarter mare Skipper Dee Lite produce her first mule baby! Not bad for someone who has been breeding Quarter Horses for 60+ years. Mr. Edsel makes beautiful saddles and his shop is a full service saddle and tack repair facility. He carries McCall, Circle Y and Billy Cook saddles. He is our tack repair “master”, and we encourage anyone in the NW Tennessee area to stop by his shop and have an old fashioned 8oz. bottle Coke and a chat (he may even show you pictures of his mule baby Lake Nowhere Luna).
